The Lawrence Senior Center is open to Lawrence senior citizens, 60 years of age and older, for a wide range of activities. The Office on Aging staff also provides information, assistance and referrals to social services and linking Lawrence seniors to the network of senior service providers.
The motto of the Senior Center is "Living It Up, Sharing the Joy"! Lawrence Seniors are encouraged to take part int the activities sponsored by the Office on Aging (Live It Up!); and to take advantage of the opportunities to contribute positively to our community (Share the Joy!). For example, citizens from the Busy Bee class have taught students from the Lawrenceville School how to knit and crochet. In turn these students taught the seniors basic, intermediate and advanced computer skills. In the past, the Lawrence Senior Center celebrated Black History month and the seniors raised funds for summer camp scholarships for Lawrenceville youngsters. Currently, seniors in the Sewing Group are passionately working on smocks, comfort pillows and blankets, collecting clothing and toiletries to donate to Angels' Wings a local residential program for infants and children awaiting placement in foster homes.
The Office on Aging also coordinates many special events that include the "Friday Evening Socials." The Valentine's Day Dance, St. Patricks Day Bash, Annual Holiday Luncheon, Senior Prom, and an annual Variety Show have all been great favorites in the past. Throughout the year the Senior Center also plans several trips to a host of destinations. To keep seniors abreast of the events at the Senior Center, the Office on Aging prepares a monthly "Lawrence Senior Activities" calendar. Copies may be picked up at the Lawrence Senior Center. Weekly activities at the center include: line dancing, hula and ballroom dancing, Yoga, T'ai Chi, bingo, exercise classes, health education screenings, lectures, bridge, Spanish lessons, movies, sculpture, painting, computers, card playing and much more.
Call the Office on Aging to arrange for our van to pick you up and bring you to the Center, food shopping or doctor's visit.
