Trenton Water Works Limited Access Update - January 10. 2024
The plant is operating—drawing water from the Delaware River and pumping it to the Pennington Avenue Reservoir for rechlorination and distribution. The interconnection with New Jersey American Water remains active, and the Limit-Water-Use Advisory issued on Wednesday evening remains in place until further notice. Persistent frazil ice build-up on the screens of the plant's $9 million raw water intake, which is submerged in the Delaware River, has prevented regular operation. Systems designed to blow ice from intake screens that filter large debris have not performed according to design parameters, which is concerning. We continue to evaluate the intake's performance and are preparing to examine it more closely using divers. And we continue to speak with officials at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, including Commissioner LaTourette, to formulate a solution. We will keep you updated on our work to restore the plant to sustained regular operation. In the meantime, the water is safe to drink, and we will continue to convey updates to you, our customers, and service-area residents on this matter.
